Mission Yearbook - May 18, 2008
Valley Presbyterian Church

Celebrating over fifty years of ministry and mission, Valley Presbyterian Church continues to be a thriving center for worshipping, growing and serving Jesus Christ at home and around the world.

Valley Church offers four Sunday worship services, both traditional and contemporary, Wednesday night BLAST (Biblical Learning and Spiritual Training) with a meal and many class offerings, as well as other small groups and fellowship opportunities, while transforming lives through Jesus Christ. Pastoral care is carried out, not only by the pastors, but also by trained teams of lay chaplains and various support groups.

Mission outreach is an integral part of our church life. Along with our on-going "hands-on" ministry partnerships, we have established two major initiatives: Community and International. Our Community Initiative is with KEYS Community Center and Southminster Presbyterian Church, where together we are exploring family and children's projects such as life skills development, spiritual counseling, mentoring, change management, Spanish/English classes, tutoring and children/youth music program. There is something for everyone to become a part of this vital ministry opportunity as we build relationships, see lives changed, minister and grow in faith together. Our International Initiative is with Ministry of Hope (MOH), which was established by Malawian Presbyterians as a local, community-based response for meeting the physical and spiritual needs of the growing number of children orphaned by the AIDS epidemic. In April '07 a team went to Malawi to work with MOH in the community based orphan care centers. This year we are sending teams in June and October, while those at home have many opportunities to minister and share God's love through providing for the MOH scholarships, building of wells, chicken and goat housing, maize mills and the future building of a new crisis nursery and orphanage. In June, we also hosted the African Children's Choir on our campus and in homes. They presented a wonderful, inspiring concert that brought people from all over the Valley. We have been, and continue to be truly blessed!
