    Southminster Presbyterian Church

Southminster Presbyterian Church, located in the South Mountain Village of Phoenix, AZ is the only African-American congregation in the Synod of the Southwest.

The church was established March 23, 1954 and has a long history of being the focal point in the community, directing efforts geared towards improving the quality of life for our members and community residents. In fulfilling its mission, Southminster Church has responded to the need for pre-school education and the need for food and nutrition programs for children and the aging. The Southminster Head Start Program received the first national award granted more than 40 years ago. The Head Start program has a long standing tradition of delivering comprehensive and quality services designed to foster healthy development of low income children.

The members of Southminster believe that to be a Christian one must let others see Christ in all that we do with love and concern for all humanity. Our goal here at Southminster is to share this message of God to the world through: our 10:00am Sunday worship service; an active Men's Club and Women's Guild, youth groups, Sunday School, Bible Study (youth & adult), church exchange programs, Adult and Youth choirs, Elder, beacon and Teacher training programs, a Foster Grandparent program, parenting classes, community and school food distributions, and rental of church facilities to community groups for religious, social, political, educational and mental health programs which meet the needs of the people.

The church exists to minister to all of God's people.
