Mission Yearbook - June 8, 2008
Pinnacle Presbyterian Church
As we celebrate our 18th year as a congregation we are entering into a new stage of life: In August of 2007 our Founding Pastor took a call to a church in Hawaii and Associate Pastor, MacHenry Schafer was named Interim Pastor. With members and affiliates, the congregation is 1400 strong, taking in 50 new members in the fall of 2007.
The Elders, Deacons and Mission Study Committee met in September 2007 for a leadership retreat to begin thinking through what direction Pinnacle Presbyterian Church should take as it moves into a new stage of life together. Out of this retreat there was a desire to focus more on Mission, Communication, Assimilation and Support.
The Session in conjunction with the Mission Study Committee wrote this new mission statement for the church:
In the heart of the Sonoran Desert, Pinnacle Presbyterian Church invites all people to hear God's story and experience God's love expressed in the life of Jesus Christ; and by the power of the Holy Spirit, we strive to equip the generations with the practices of our faith.
At the foot of the mountain we created a sanctuary. We come together as God's people, reaching out to make a difference in one another's lives, in our community, and around the world. We express our faithfulness through excellence in worship, the arts, serving meals, building homes, crossing borders, and nurturing children and youth. We are people who know the power of forgiveness, joy and, love.
Pinnacle has begun several other new adventures in ministry: A Tallulah Mural Project at the Preschool, a church wide recycling program, an 'End Homelessness' initiative, mission trips to Haiti, New Orleans, and California, and a monthly program for 4th to 6th graders called Club 46. Please pray for Pinnacle during this time of transition, that we might continue to minister with sensitivity, humility and excellence.
