Mission Yearbook - January 25, 2009
First Presbyterian Church of Peoria
First Presbyterian Church of Peoria has a mission to build our rich heritage of faith, serving God in Word, prayer and deed. We witness to God's love through worship, education, stewardship and fellowship; reaching out to those in need. We welcome everyone into our sphere of spiritual awareness and learning.
Our church has celebrated over 100 years of Christian education and fellowship. The church building is listed in the historical society registry. The programs we sponsor and the visibility of our lovely sanctuary, calls to those in our surrounding area.
Christian Education is very important to this church as evidenced by a Pre-School that was founded and directed by a long time member of the church. Youth programs include: Sunday worship, youth group for all ages, yearly activities that include camp and mission trips and plays that allow our youth to act out their faith through the stories of Christ's love for us. Each summer our children and those in the surrounding area are treated to Vacation Bible School. Youth are active in our church and can be seen offering music and conducting worship at various times of the year.
Some of the many activities held at our church include: Over 50 group, a crafter group, Presbyterian Women's group, potlucks with special music, a Christmas Pageant, exploring our heritage by having guests come and speak, an annual rummage sale that benefits the church and those in need in our area.
We continue to support an Adult Day Care Program in our fellowship hall for those that are mentally challenged, support the West Side Food bank through our donations of money and time, have gathered food and water for the homeless, and during our last rummage sale were able to support a struggling family here a short time as a result of the recent tragedy in Louisiana.
Our rich heritage, continued goal to witness God's love and desire to be a mission driven church allow us to reach out to all who would like to join us.
