Mission Yearbook - December 27, 2009
Orangewood Presbyterian Church
Orangewood Presbyterian Church is a revitalizing congregation in North Central Phoenix. Growing in membership, giving and energy, we feel poised to reach out more and more to our community and our world with God's love.
Orangewood has recently called Tully Fletcher as our Associate Pastor, and defined his role as roughly 50% ministry to our youth and 50% outreach to the youth of our community. Hopefully those lines will get blurred as youth we don't have become youth we do have. Most importantly we pray that they will become youth whom God has!
We are situated in an upper middle class neighborhood with both some affluent neighborhoods and some apartments nearby. Orangewood's traditional missions of food for the hungry and shelter for the homeless are desperately needed in our city and our world, but are not so much needed in our immediate locale.
There is a great need for quality after-school experiences for youth. Our local community has a lot of single parents and a lot of two-career families. Hence many young teens are without supervision and without positive activities in the afternoons. This puts them at significant risk for problems such as delinquency, pregnancy, alcohol and other drug abuse, and depression. Orangewood believes that we can meet a need here, and share God's love in the process.
Please pray for us as we follow God's lead in this new mission.
