Mission Yearbook - February 10, 2010
Mission Del Sol Presbyterian Church
2008 is going to be an exciting year at Mission del Sol. As we celebrate 21 years of ministry in Tempe and beyond we prepare to complete our church campus with the building of a new sanctuary. The architects and builder are at work on our "design development" phase of the project and we expect to break ground toward the end of the year.
Recognizing that our campus is the spring board for our continued mission work we rejoice in the lives we have been able to touch and the plans we have for continuing our outreach. We have sent four different groups to Mississippi since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita to help with the reconstruction work through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. We were planning a trip to Kenya in May to explore the possibilities of helping start a rural medical clinic but given the current crises are now going to be working to support the local Kenyan community in Phoenix as they anguish over the circumstances in their former homeland. In June we will be sending a group of 20 to Honduras for a fifth trip in support of "Honduras Outreach" which ministers to over 40 communities in the mountain regions of the country, an eight hour bus drive from the capital. Our second Urban Mission trip for Junior Highs where we stay at our own church and travel daily on local bus routes will continue to introduce our youth to the host of non-profit agencies that provide support services for the marginalized of our metropolitan area. We are working in concert with University Presbyterian Church as they conduct the Senior High evening youth program and we host the Junior High evening youth program for both congregations.
We worship at 8:30 and 10:30 each Sunday and look forward to our fifth annual "Kirkin' of the Tartans" worship services on Sunday, March 30th to which we invite all who want to celebrate our historic Presbyterian roots in Scotland.
