Mission Yearbook 2008
Presbyterian Women in the Presbytery
Presbyterian Women (PW) is a churchwide organization whose membership is open to all women of the PC(USA) who choose to participate in or be supportive of the organization in any way. PW intentionally seeks the membership of women from all racial ethnic groups so that the organization reflects a vision of the whole church as a community of mutual interdependence in which diversity contributes to wholeness.
PW gives strong support to the mission of the PC(USA) and determines its own leadership, program and budget.
Presbyterian Women is organized at all levels of the PC(USA)-in congregations, presbyteries and synods as well as General Assembly. This connectional system allows ideas to continually flow back and forth to strengthen the work of Presbyterian Women and the ministry of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
In April 2008, PW churchwide is introducing the U.S.A. Mission Experience Beyond Borders. With a focus on immigration, participants in the week-long trip will combine education and hands-on ministry in partnership with mission projects in El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. The PW Global Exchange, Joined and Knit Together in Love, will take place in September 2008. Presbyterian Women from every synod will travel to the Czech Republic, Hungary and Ukraine to learn how the changing political climate in Eastern Europe has affected women, the church and the Roma people. In 2009 women from Eastern Europe will continue the exchange by attending the PW Churchwide Gathering in Louisville, Kentucky.
Within the Presbytery of Grand Canyon, the PW Coordinating Team plans two Gatherings, Spring-April 5, 2008 and Fall-November 1, 2008, and a leadership training event. In conjunction with the Women's Ministry Committee, PW will co-sponsor the Women's Spring Retreat, April 18-20, 2008. Native American Presbyterian Women are planning a national event to be held at Cook School for Christian Leadership April 4-6, 2008. For updates on PW activities, go to the Presbytery website
