Call to the Stated Meeting of the Presbytery of Grand Canyon
    Friday and Saturday, March 17 - 18, 2006
    Gilbert Presbyterian Church

    From the Moderator

    Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We will soon be called together as a presbytery for the March meeting, but I write to you now to enlist your help.

I envision opening the meeting with a processional of church banners or flags that will bear witness to our ethnic and cultural diversity. I encourage attendees to wear garments that reflect the richness of our cross-section of God's family. This cross-section of diversity includes economical, generational, social, demographic, theological, and disabilities. This is a wonderful opportunity to involve the youth of our presbytery.

Would you please discuss this vision with the elders of your congregation and notify the presbytery office of the extent of your participation. I would love to have the banners on display during the meeting, so please bring along a stand for each flag.

Presbytery will start promptly at 4 o'clock in Gilbert; so I will need to meet with those participating at 3:30 in the courtyard outside the front doors of the sanctuary.

In the footsteps of our Lord,
    David S. Hodgson, Moderator

Mission Statement of the Multi-Cultural Task Force

Lead the Presbytery of Grand Canyon into intentional celebration of the multicultural diversity within its bounds

TO: Clerks of Session, Minister Members, Elder Commissioners and Other Presbyters

FROM: Richard E. Coffelt, Stated Clerk

    DATE: March 4, 2006

The Presbytery of Grand Canyon is hereby called to meet for its Stated Meeting on Friday and Saturday, March 17-18, 2006 at Gilbert Presbyterian Church, Gilbert, AZ. Registration is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM on Friday, with the meeting to begin promptly at 4:00 PM.

Highlights for this Stated Meeting as reflected on the Tentative Agenda are the following:
    • Rev. Dr. Marian McClure, Director of Worldwide Ministries of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), will be with us on both Friday and Saturday. She will lead Worship on Friday and she will make a presentation on Saturday with opportunity for dialogue. The Worldwide Ministries Division (WMD) empowers the church in each place to share the transforming power of the gospel of Jesus Christ with all people. The staff is divided into three main work areas. One sends people, one sends resources, and one builds relationships with partner churches. Under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Marian McClure, the Director's Office coordinates the work of the Division, including a staff of approximately 100 employees based in the U.S., 400 long-term mission personnel in 65 countries, 75 short-term mission personnel. Besides day-to-day management of the WMD, the Director's Office is working closely with the Mission Initiative: Joining Hearts & Hands campaign. Over a five-year period, the Mission Initiative will raise $40 million that will be devoted to funding additional international mission personnel and starting new congregations in the United States. Of that amount, $21.5 million will be dedicated to international mission workers and $19.5 million will be used for new church development and re-development in the U.S. The Mission Initiative was approved by the 214th General Assembly in June 2002.
