Mission Yearbook - October 4, 2009 John Calvin Presbyterian Church Situated in the foothills of Superstition Mountains in the far east Valley, our church is excited about learning the history of John Calvin Church each month in our monthly INSIGHT. We will be celebrating our 45th year in October of 2009. We serve the community with our own food bank and also support the Apache Junction Reach Out Food Bank. Montessori School started here in January of 2008. Other organization who meet here are Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Chat and Sew, CAAFA, Radiozona and Melodrama. 2008 was our first year to become one of six relay teams for the Southeast Valley collecting shoeboxes filled for OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD. Over 11,000 boxes were sent overseas to 100 countries. Each box contained a book with the story of Jesus in their own language. The church communicants are very generous in supporting the Christmas Joy Offering, One Great Hour of Sharing, Heifer Project and Operation Christmas Child. The deacons prepared meals for a family while the husband was in the hospital and are always meeting needs of the people in prayer and deeds. The Presbyterian Women support Head Start, Project Help, Cook School, Hope Women's Center besides giving to the mission in Presbytery and Synod. 2008 was our first year for Kirkin' of the Tartans to be made an annual event. Other activities include: Monthly potlucks with singalongs, Thanksgiving Dinner open to the public, Vacation Bible School and Christmas programs for children The Easter Sunrise Service is awesome to see the sun arise to always remind us of the resurrection of Christ and what He has done for us. Keep us in your prayers during our transition to a new minister.
Driving Directions - Interactive Map From the West on Apache Trail/Main Street: Go east on the Trail through AJ until it turns into the Old West Highway near the closed Grand Hotel and Fry's Supermarket. Continue southeast (straight) until your second left hand turn onto Broadway by JR's gas station. John Calvin Presbyterian Church is 1/4 mile due east and will be on your left on Broadway. From the West on US 60: Go east on interstate 60 until exit 196/Idaho Road. Take a left going north onto Idaho until corner of Idaho and Old West Highway. Take a right onto the Old West Highway. Continue southeast until your second left hand turn onto Broadway by JR's gas station. John Calvin Presbyterian Church is 1/4 mile due east and will be on your left on Broadway. From the East (and Gold Canyon) on US 60: (Directions are much simpler than they sound below!) Go west on US60 until you see a sign for Old West Highway/exit 199. Take exit road to the right heading northwest. You will come to a stop sign on Goldfield Road and the beginning of the Old West Highway. Take a right onto Goldfield Road/Old West Highway first heading north then immediately veering to your left heading northwest on the Old West Highway. At the first stop light at the intersection of the Old West Highway and Tomahawk Road, take a right onto Tomahawk going due north until the first stop sign at the corner of Tomahawk and Broadway. Take a left onto Broadway heading west. John Calvin Presbyterian Church is 1/4 mile on your right on Broadway.
