Mission Yearbook - March 1, 2009
Horizon Presbyterian Church
Horizon Presbyterian Church is located in the Ahwatukee-Foothills area of Phoenix. Horizon started meeting in 1990 and presently has 158 members. We have one Sunday service which is a "blended" service, traditional and contemporary music combined. Our choir is active and our praise band has a lot of youth participation.
Horizon is the church home of an incredibly gifted group of multi-generational members who built this church with love, faith and a true sense of purpose. In addition to finding the sustenance for our own lives in the word of God and fellowship at our church, we are open to being better kingdom builders through finding more ways to reach more people in need of God's redemptive message. We want to grow, not for growth's sake, but to bring the understanding of God's love and the empowerment of Christian fellowship to more in our area.
We have many young, growing families. Consequently, Horizon's members believe that children's and youth ministries are a vital part of our purpose. God's Garden Child Development Center, our own accredited Christian preschool, was started as an outreach to our community in 2000. Horizon also has employed a Youth Director either part of full time since 1998.
For a church our size, we provide extensive church programs and undertake local, regional and international mission efforts. Examples of the Mission efforts include: an annual trip to Mexico with AMOR Ministries; work trips to Honduras; ongoing support of Margaret's Orphans and the WA Hostel in Thailand; the local Food Bank; serving dinners at the Rescue Mission; Health Care for the Homeless; and being a sister church to the Gila River Indian Community.
