Gilbert Presbyterian Church
"Gilbert Presbyterian Church is called to be a Christ-centered covenant family, nurtured by the Holy Spirit, to worship God and share God's love with EVERYONE." We are a family church, and at church activities our children and youth interact with one another like cousins at a family reunion; we are constantly encouraged and touched by the way older children and youth nurture and mentor the younger members of our church family.
Children eagerly watch for those "rites of passage" when they can begin participating in our worship together. Worship is seen as an integral part of our shared life at GPC. Our acolytes as older children take great pride in the responsibility of training the younger children on the meaning of the candlelight in our service as well as the proper decorum for bringing the light into the sanctuary.
As our youth grow older, many serve as lay readers in Sunday morning worship, and all of our Junior and Senior High Youth responsible for a worship service as they plan, publicize and lead a monthly Sunday night Praise Service. Their enthusiasm serves to encourage the entire congregation as we move into the future.
We share God's love with EVERYONE as our children's art work is used to create and print Christmas cards that are sold by our Presbyterian Women's group- with funds raised going to a mission project selected by the children. This artwork has also been used as cover art for our bulletins during the Advent season.
In recent years, our Vacation Bible School has served as a focus for outreach into the neighborhood. More than half of the students in VBS come from non-member families. Led by Junior and Senior High Youth under the direction and supervision of adult teachers, they help with everything from music to games.
Our youth bring a freshness and vitality to our mission and ministry at GPC which reminds us what life in Christ is all about. The whole congregation feeds off of their involvement and as a result, we are becoming a congregation that is more and more looking outward as we seek to respond to God's call to serve.
