Mission Yearbook - October 26, 2008
Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church
Situated on the eastern side of the McDowell Mountains and nestled between Scottsdale and the McDowell Indian community, Fountain Hills enjoys a "small town" feel. Originally envisioned as a retirement community, the town has become intergenerational and FHPC reflects this portrait. To enhance the vision of providing differing opportunities for spiritual growth, FHPC offers Sunday morning and midweek classes for all ages.
FHPC is especially blessed with many avenues for musical expression. Active among them are an intergenerational church choir, hand bell ringers, recorder players and a number of brass and woodwind instrumentalists who enrich the Sunday morning worship experience.
The often-used Fellowship Center has become a beehive of church related and community-sponsored activities such as Cross Unity and Cross Unity Alliance, AA, piano competitions, and youth choral workshops. A varied Concert Series, featuring professional musicians, is offered to and enjoyed by the community
A new expression of outreach is being formed as we establish a relationship with the Rev. Nedson Zulu and Sebber Banda in the Tet Province of Mozambique. We continue to support Good Year Village Presbyterian Church, Cook School for Christian Leadership, along with 1st Sunday Food Drives, Souper Bowl Sunday and Ton of Turkey for our local food bank, Extended Hands. Working together with our neighbors at Ft. McDowell Presbyterian Church, Christmas gifts are provided to various Native American groups throughout the state. Prior to the opening of school, School Supplies for Kids are collected each summer. In addition, many members deliver lunches for the Meals on Wheels program, while others volunteer at local hospitals, clinics and museums.
There is an ongoing effort to learn more about the ministries within the Presbytery, Synod and the General Assembly through study groups, Presbyterian Women, and the Men's Fellowship. In addition to Basic Mission Support, the special offerings to One Great Hour of Sharing, Christmas Joy, Pentecost, Peacemaking, and the Church World Services' Tools of Hope and Blanket Sunday, are part of our endeavor to become acquainted with and be in support of our global neighbors.
FHPC outreach within the congregation is especially visible through the Board of Deacons as they provide many caring services such as home visits, shut-in meals, transportation and care of family members serving in the military. Walking the Mourner's Path and C.A.R.E. (Crisis Activated Response Effort) are two new ministries being offered.
Come and join us in prayer as we seek to follow the path Christ is leading to bring ourselves and others into a closer fellowship with Him.
