Desert Palms Presbyterian Church

Found in far northwest Phoenix in the Del Webb Retirement Community of Sun City West, Desert Palms Presbyterian Church capitalizes on its unique setting for ministry. The median age of church members is seventy-five but age does not slow down this busy and energetic congregation. True to the Del Webb lifestyle, these "active adults" are engaged in travel, sports, community, church and a variety of mission projects.
Mission projects which Desert Palms supports through giving and "hands on" volunteers includes such things as:
  • Just Coffee - a cooperative of coffee bean farmers in Chiapas and Sonora, Mexico - selling and serving Just Coffee
  • St. Mary's/Westside Food Bank
  • Agua Fria Food and Clothing Bank
  • Habitat for Humanity -completing two Presbyterian Coalition houses in Peoria and considering a third in partnership with the Episcopal Church
  • Companeros en Mision - Presbyterian Border Ministry in Nogales, AZ/Mexico and the State of Sonora
  • Desert Palms' Scholarship Fund to award deserving students scholarships to local community colleges
  • Heifer Project International
  • Tutoring students at Nadaburg School
  • Work camp at Montlure Presbyterian Church Camp in Greer
  • D.U.C.K. (Downtown Urban Kids)
  • Betania Presbyterian Church
  • Cook Leadership School
Over 30 separate mission projects are supported through the people resources and the financial resources of Desert Palms Presbyterian Church's Mission Committee, Women of the Church, Men of the Church, Board of Deacons, and Craft Group. This is in keeping with DPPC's mission statement: "to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ; to enable people to grow in their faith; to empower people to share God's love among the congregation, community, and world."
