First Presbyterian, Yuma

Our Mission:

First Presbyterian Church, Yuma is an 83 year old mostly Anglo congregation. Attendance fluctuates dramatically with the seasons from about 60 in the summer to about 100 in the winter. Our church is located in a older part of town which has seen an influx of minorities, primarily Hispanic, many of whom are recent immigrants. We have two services each Sunday, one in English and one in Spanish. Since 2004 Rev. Phil Courtney has served as our pastor and we are encouraged by the enthusiasm and energy he has generated in our congregations.
Rev. Joaquin Garcia is leader of our Hispanic Congregation. He joined our staff in 2009 and shares his gifts for evangelism with our hispanic and anglo community.
We partner with Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church, also of Yuma, and the Presbiterio Nor-Occidental (of Mexico) in Sonora Arizona Ministries/Ministerio Arizona Sonora (SAM/MAS) a program designed to plant Presbyterian Churches in San Luis, Rio Colorado. The congregation of "Jesus, Pan de Vida", SAM/MAS's first church continues to grow and develop and is now self -supporting in all respects except for the pastor's salary.
Our priorities for the coming year are to continue/expand our outreach among our Hispanic neighbors both in Yuma and Mexico, to enlarge our membership and to work toward making our facilities handicap accessible.
