Vah Ki Presbyterian
Our Mission:
The Vah-Ki Presbyterian church is comprised of two churches, the Stotonic Chapel
and the Vah-Ki church. Both are just a few of the many churches established by
Charles H. Cook on the Gila River Indian Community.
Although both
churches are small in membership (less than 75 total) and without a minister for
more than five years, they have been faithful witnesses to God's miracles; first
by multiplying in attendance in their Sunday morning services at Vah-Ki. Through
congregational prayers, they have seen their church family survive troubled
times of life threatening illnesses and surgeries. Finally beginning January,
2009 they will have a part-time stated supply minister, Sharon Selestewa from
the Salt River Indian Community. With a new minister the church will be able to
begin to fulfill their outreach ministry to the community such as Youth ministry
and Christian education, just to name a few objectives.
"Praise be to
God". Vah-Ki continues to be host church to the Annual Elders and Deacons
Association's (EDA) camp meeting held about the second week in October. These meetings are still held the same way
their parents, grandparents and great-grandparents have served the Lord, a three
day event, with three revival-style services a day. People throughout the
community and from other tribes camp on the church grounds, therefore it's a
"Camp Meeting".
