University Presbyterian
Our Mission:
University Presbyterian Church (UPC) in Tempe, founded in 1952, seeks to be an
open, inviting Christian community that glorifies God and strives to live His
will as expressed in Jesus Christ. Founded on the Arizona State University
campus, the 330 member church is marked by its quest to foster mature faith in
its members.
Strong emphasis is placed on a Christian education program
that instills values and challenges everyone to apply scripture and knowledge of
contemporary issues to their daily lives. Intentional about offering a rich
worship experience of music, message, meditation and sharing, the church
provides a strong faith community in a world yearning for help and
love.
UPC is defined by social ministries, grounded in a reliance on
volunteers who direct and lead programs and are involved in dozens of community
outreaches and non-profit programs. A team prepares and serves meals at a local
food kitchen for the homeless. Some members help maintain water stations in the
desert with Humane Borders. Several times a year the church hosts homeless
families for a week at a time providing food, shelter and encouragement. The
missions of UPC are as diverse as the membership.
