Southminster Presbyterian
Our Mission:
Southminster Presbyterian Church, located in the South Mountain Village of
Phoenix, AZ is the only African-American congregation in the Synod of the
Southwest.
The Church was established March 23, 1954 and has a long
history of being the focal point in the community, directing efforts geared
towards improving the quality of life for our members and community residents.
In fulfilling its mission, we have responded to the need for
pre-school education and the need for food and nutrition programs for children
and the aging. The Southminster Head Start rogram received the first national
award granted more than 40 years ago. The Head Start program has a long-standing
tradition of delivering comprehensive and quality services designed to foster
healthy development of low income children.
The members of Southminster
believe that to be a Christian, one must let other see Christ in all that we do
with love and concern for all humanity. Our goal here at Southminster is to
share this message of God to the world through:
An active Men's Club and Women's Guild, youth
groups and Sunday School Bible Study (Youth and Adult), Church Exchange
Programs, Adult and Youth Choirs, Elder, Deacon and teacher training
programs, Power Hour of meditation, Community and School Distributions, Rental of Church facilities to community groups for religious, social,
political, medical, recreational, educational and mental health programs which
meet the needs of the people. The church exists to minster to all of
God's people.
