Mission Yearbook 2008 - March 30
Betania Presbyterian Church
Betania Presbyterian Church, located in Phoenix,
has a bilingual multicultural and intergenerational
congregation. The theme of our church comes from the
Gospel: "Love God and love your neighbor." This is the
reason why Betania has developed programs that are
centered on structuring an active worship experience,
outreach to the community, strong educational
opportunities for children and adults, and nurturing the
members of the church.
Since 1989 it has been in a partnership with the
churches of Orangewood in Phoenix, First in Peoria and
Faith in Sun City. Betania session incorporated Betania
Community Center as a social complement service
where youth and adults are prepared. In a spirit of
inclusion and diversity, we also seek to celebrate
Hispanic/Latino traditions.
Betania has continued its support to develop the
mission "Dios es Amor" as a worship extension with a
group of Latin ministers that share time with the
Hispanic/Latino community in the west side of Phoenix.
Border Ministry Mission through a partnership Project
with "Pan de Vida" Presbyterian Church, in San Luis, Río
Colorado and Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in
Mexicali, Mexico, was established. There have been
caravans of members from Betania that bring gifts and
supplies to needy families and students.
Betania helps the Hispanic/Latino community.
Betania’s Food and Clothing Bank, and the "Grupo de
Alcoholicos Comienzo" are three projects offering help to
needy families. Many of the programs and activities that
Betania now provides have to be re-tooled to adjust to
the demographic reality. One of Betania’s strengths is
that it is debt-free, and has access to land for expansion.
