Mission Yearbook - November 15, 2009

Betania Presbyterian Church, located in Phoenix, AZ, is a bilingual, multicultural and intergenerational congregation. Our membership's background and roots are represented by eleven countries from around the world. The theme of our church comes from the Gospel: "Love to God and love your neighbors." For years, Betania has developed programs which are centered around providing an active worship experience, outreach to the community, and strong educational opportunities for children and adults, by nurturing the members of the church.

In 1989 we began a partnership with the churches of Orangewood in Phoenix, First in Peoria and Faith in Sun City. The Betania Community Center mission is a social service preparing youth and adults to learn English as a Second Language. Betania houses the DUCK program, (Downtown Urban Community Kids), helping children to reach their God-given potential through educational and Biblical instruction.

Betania's spirit of inclusion and diversity celebrates Hispanic/Latino traditions of the members through: support and development of the "Dios es Amor" mission, a group of Latino ministers that share time with the Hispanic/Latino community on the west side of Phoenix; Border Ministry Mission, a partnership Project with "Pan de Vida" Presbyterian Church, in San Luis, Río Colorado, and with the Presbyterian Theological Seminary, in Mexicali, Mexico. Caravans of Betania members bring gifts and supplies to needy families and students there.

Betania also helps the Hispanic/Latino community through our Food and Clothing Banks. The "Grupo Comienzo" from Anonymous Alcoholics has meetings every day of the week. A vigorous Health project that has been led for years by Sarita Ramos. This year, we will work in the New Kitchen Project.
